Supervisor, Assembly & Test - Space

SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Operations Director, Space Business Unit, assumes responsibilities for day-to-day operational functions by supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in assembling parts or assemblies into units on the assigned space product line(s).  Responsible for establishing the training matrix within the organization and providing necessary training schedules to each of the direct reporting technicians insure a cross-functional organization.  The Space Operations Supervisor oversees production and programs to ensure activities are accomplished in accordance with committed build dates and budgets.  Supervisor also maintains necessary efficiency metrics and schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the overall coordination of the assembly and testing process in order to optimize the use of all resources in meeting and/or exceeding established program goals.

Maintain communication with department Manager, providing feedback on schedule and meeting expectations.  Attend daily status meetings on program progress and commitments.

Plan and coordinate department activities (daily technicians assignment) to support targets and meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

Ensure that department personnel are performing tasks as outlined in job instruction breakdowns, quality specifications and standard operating practices.

Interpret company policies to immediate reports and enforces safety regulations.

Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.  Implement necessary changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

 

Analyze and resolve work problems or assists workers in solving work problems. 

Provide communication on departmental expectations, motivates team members, and identifies opportunity for improvement.

Maintain time and production record in ShopVue software for all immediate reports and evaluate the performance of workers.

Participate in identifying hiring needs, employee selection and training process.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees in the Space Operations’ department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous manufacturing experience in a Supervisory or Lead role.  Understanding of continuous improvement practice and process analysis.  Experience working in a team environment with strong planning/organization and time management skills with demonstrated ability to problem solve.  Knowledge of manufacturing production scheduling and control, testing and quality requirements.  Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software i.e. Word, Excel, Project Schedules and PowerPoint.   

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or a minimum of three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
